Yee-haw for freezing your toukas off!

October 16, 2009

I got a giddy call from my husband this afternoon: he’s going dog sledding! In Northern Minnesota! Next February! Wheee!!!!

Huh?!!

Oh, yes, it’s true and here’s the best part: all his expenses are being covered, courtesy of Outward Bound.

Hubs has been home from Iraq for a year and frankly, I’d forgotten about this fantastic program for OIF/OEF vets. He tried to get on the list soon after his return, but obviously, the program is very, very popular. An email crossed his desk today and this time he called IMMEDIATELY – voila! True, his first choice was sailing in the Florida Keys and he didn’t get his first choice of travel dates, but he’s going dog sledding!

Here’s the details:

Who’s eligible? All OIF/OEF vets, including active duty and Reservists. Current military status does not matter, as long as you deployed in support of OIF or OEF during your time with the military.

Both Open Enrollment and Custom Courses are available. Be patient. Be persistent.

Cost: Free-of-charge. All costs, including round-trip stateside travel between home and expedition location; lodging en route; and food, lodging, equipment, and instruction while on the course, are fully paid.

Contact:1-866-669-2362, ext 8387 or email obvets@outwardbound.org

True, he is leaving me with a newborn to spend a week with a pack of dogs, but he absolutely deserves the break. My one beef with it all? Outward Bound, please consider offering similar trips for milspouses!!! I’d be all over a week in the backcountry!

I would *so* go on an Outward Bound trip for milspouses. Those would be some crazy and fun campfire conversations! 🙂

I was just thinking we need to propose a Custom Course for milspouses! Hmmm….

oh absolutely, a custom course for milspouses.. don’t know about February in Minnesota though – used to live there – frozen tundra doesn’t appeal to me much anymore.
