Military Spouse Employment Act – Let’s get this passed.
We all know that employment is one of those BIG issues in the military spouse community. Our unemployment rate is a lot higher than that of our civilian counterparts, up to 25% in some areas and even higher in others.
To help us level the playing field and overcome some of the perceived disadvantages of hiring a military spouse, a bill was introduced; HR687. The Military Spouses Employment Act would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to make employers of spouses of military personnel eligible for the work opportunity credit.
There is a Facebook page dedicated to connecting those who want to work towards the passage of this bill. MOAA is also making it easier for all of us to connect with our congressmen/women. Let’s call our congresscritter, check out the list to find out if he/she is a co-sponsor and say thanks; if they aren’t – ask them to be! We did a great job with the MSRRA – let’s do it again!
