Military Family Report – at the White House

January 24, 2011

Not just Department of Defense, not just the Department of Veterans Affairs; but an effort by more departments in the Federal Government – is the theme of this new report.  I couldn’t watch it live, but I was happy to find this at the Pentagon Channel.

The actual report is HERE.

After we have all had the time to read/absorb, let’s talk about this ok?  I know, we have heard a lot of this before.  Let’s see how this is different.

*** Mrs. Mullen (one of my favourite senior milspouses, with a great grasp of what is really going on with military families) was at the 2011 Military Health System Conference.  She spoke about military families, about the effects of depression, the military health system NOT following up with spouses…

“Often, spouses tell me they don’t need another program. … What they need is time: time with their spouse, time together with their families, time with a counselor, or a doctor, or a minister,” she said. “They want time to explore and understand what is happening to them, and the patience and understanding of loved ones, and friends, and the system itself.
