All the little stuff, and the frustrations of work, house, reintegration hiccups, even the medical problems and all – were slammed into perspective for me yesterday. A young woman gave us all a wakeup when she wrote on her blog about the loss of her husband, of her trip to Dover to welcome him home from Afghanistan. Her pride in her Marine, her love for him, rings through her post loud and clear, together with hurt and anger at his loss. The photos from Dover of his repatriation are solemnly heartbreaking. Perspective indeed.

The thoughts of all of us at LeftFace, our support and love go to our fellow milspouse, Mrs. P., her daughter and her entire family.

It was such a heartbreaking entry to read. I am humbled that she chose to share it. I wish angels of strength for her and her daughter.

It really does bring it home just what is risked when they get on those planes to Afghanistan or Iraq. That it really could be a last goodbye for us. Of course we try not to think about that – we wouldn’t survive if we did – but that is the cold, stark reality of it all.

My deepest condolences to Mrs P and her family, I’ll light a candle for her tonight.
