Army Wives, We Need Your Help!

July 29, 2009

One of our writers received an email from a woman who is writing a paper for her gender roles sociology class. She says:

I wanted to do my paper on the different roles army wives have in their relationships and families and how they may change while their husbands are away at war, especially women with children. I want to know if you experienced changes since you had to act as both parents for a time and how it effects you once your husband returns? I have a few army wife friends I am going to interview also, but neither have children. I really wanted some perspective on the changes you may have gone through or felt having your husbands away related to your role as a wife. I will probably have to do some book research but the more genuine real life respones I can find the better my paper will be.

I know there are a lot of you out there who can relate to this type of situation. If you think you can help out, please feel free to shoot us an email, and we will compile and forward it on to her! These are the questions she is looking for:

1. Name
2. Location
3. Prior to your husband’s deployment how would you define your overall role in the family?
4. How did your role change when your husband deployed?
5. What duties did you take over doing when he was gone?
6. If you have children, how did they react to the changes in your role and duty as a parent?
7. How did your change of role and duty affect you emotionally?
8. When your husband returned home, what changed? What stayed the same?
9. How did the changes you went through affect your relationship with your husband?

Thanks ladies! You all rock!
