Operation: Love ReUnited

March 31, 2009

We are happy to highlight Operation: Love ReUnited, a charity organization started by photographer and milspouse Tonee Lawrence, which matches local photographers with military families who are deploying, have deployed or are returning home. Eligible troops are offered photo sessions and a small photo album, at no cost, all made possible by a dedicated and grateful group of 800 photographer volunteers nation-wide. And I don’t know about you, but I was crying too hard when my husband left and when he came home to even dream of holding a camera straight. We have one, maybe two decent photos of those moments  – if only I had known about OpLove back then.

This weekend, in the first event of its kind, OpLove will will host a Family Photo Weekend for deploying Ft. Bliss soldiers. 15 national photographers and 8 local photographers from the El Paso (TX)/Las Cruces (NM) area will work together to photograph up to 1000 families, families whose loved ones are a part of the deploying 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division (the Highlanders) and the deployed 11th Air Defense Artillery and 93rd MP Battalion.

Jason Frederich of Screaming Light Studios, in Las Cruces, NM,  is the Regional Coordinator and a dedicated volunteer with OpLove. “It’s been a lot of work to put this event together. Photographers involved also maintain their own busy private  businesses, but if this is successful, we hope to be able to bring this event to other large bases around the country.”

See here for how you can find a participating photographer in your area. See here to donate and help OpLove’s cause. Oh, and see here for photographs that will make you cry like a baby.

I heard about Operation Love a while ago. A photographer friend in DC participates.
What a great idea! Thanks for reminding us about this organization.
